Laura Barrett, MA, LPC -
My primary theoretical
orientation that I use for counseling is
Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) where we explore and
identify distorted negative thinking patterns and therefore
modify our behaviors to achieve healthier behaviors. Our
thoughts are filtered through our core belief system based
on how we were influenced by our parents (or primary
caregivers), all of our experiences, our past traumas, etc.
Many times our distorted thoughts can lead to depression,
anxiety, relationship issues, etc. and counseling may be
very helpful in resolving these issues.
